Lead Fintech Engineer / International Payments

Location: San Francisco

Compensation: $300,000-$380,000 cash + benefits

We’re looking for a Lead Fintech Engineer to join a well-funded, early-stage fintech company building a consumer finance product for international users. The product combines core banking capabilities with a stablecoin wallet to enable seamless movement of value within a global financial ecosystem.

This is a senior, high-ownership leadership role. You will work closely with technical founders to set engineering standards and build secure, reliable systems that handle real money at scale internationally.

What you will do

  • Lead backend engineering for a consumer-facing financial platform serving iOS, Android, and web clients.

  • Define engineering standards and best practices across testing, observability, security, and deployment.

  • Build and scale systems across ledgering, payment rails, wallets, and banking integrations.

  • Integrate third-party providers for authentication, KYC and KYB, ledger, banking services, and crypto wallet infrastructure.

  • Identify performance or isolation needs and break services out of the monolith when it is warranted.

Tech stack

  • Python (FastAPI) monolith

  • Postgres and Redis

  • AWS

  • Openness to Rust and or Go for performance-sensitive services

  • REST APIs powering iOS, Android, and web frontends

What we are looking for

  • 5+ years building and shipping fintech software in production.

  • Deep expertise in at least one of the following domains: ledgering, payments processing, stablecoin infrastructure, or risk and fraud.

  • Strong backend fundamentals, including Postgres, Redis, and AWS.

  • Experience designing APIs and building highly reliable, secure systems.

Bonus points

  • Full-stack capability and willingness to flex across the stack when needed.

  • Experience building B2C banking products or high-scale consumer payments.
